Welcome to the website of SEAA, the Society for East Asian Archaeology. Established in 1996 and now counting some 500 international members, SEAA is the preeminent organization devoted to the promotion of the field of East Asian archaeology and the facilitation of scholarly exchange among archaeologists of the region.

Held every three years, SEAA’s ‘Worldwide conferences’ bring together archaeologists from all corners of the world and serve as the Society’s key scholarly and social event. Beyond its conferences, the Society now has in place several initiatives and activities aimed at the broad promotion of SEAA to student populations (such as the Student Paper Award) and other constituencies. The new website offers access to a Twitter feed and to a range of information about SEAA and topics of interest to its members, such as a News blog with regular updates about publications, job opportunities, museum exhibitions, announcements about members, and conferences. We are also planning to develop a regular newsletter to be delivered electronically to SEAA members.

I end by mentioning that SEAA is well-served by a group of dedicated international scholars who have volunteered to serve on its Council, whose members include Regional representatives, Appointed officers, past SEAA presidents, as well as four members of the Executive: myself (President), Sascha Priewe (Vice-president), Anke Hein (Treasurer), and Katrinka Reinhart (Secretary). Feel free to contact me, or any other member of the Executive, with any question, concern or suggestion you may have.
