NMS has the largest collection of Shang oracle bones outside of East Asia as well as an expansive ethnographic collection from the East Asian littoral. The Burrell collection features a notable collection of art, including East Asian ceramics from the Neolithic on down.
Provisional Itinerary:
25th August
This trip will depart from Aberdeen at 7:30am heading straight for the National Museums Collection Centre, where there will be a private object handling session from approximately 11am-1pm. Following that delegates will be driven to the National Museum of Scotland, where they can either purchase their own lunch at the Museum's Café, or source something else locally.
The afternoon is then free for you to explore the National Museum of Scotland itself, which does have an East Asia Gallery, or you can explore Edinburgh. The bus will collect again at 4pm where you will be driven to the overnight accommodation - a Premier Inn in Glasgow. Once settled in your room there are plenty of options for purchasing dinner. There is a restaurant on site, or if you'd prefer to venture out, the City Centre is approximately 10-15 minute walk away (taxis are abundant and reasonably priced).
26th August
Breakfast is included at the hotel, Following breakfast the bus will depart at 10am to head to The Burrell Collection, where the group will be split into two - half will have a private hour tour while the other half explore the museum, and then the groups will swap over.
